Friday Fun - The Day I Found Out that I Was A Serial Killer
What is in a name? Quite a bit apparently. My name is Anthony Wayne Allen Mannor. That’s a mouthfull. My middle name, Wayne, is my grandfather’s first name. Yes, Wayne Mannor - Like Batman’s house. I talked about this on Tim McAlpine’s blog a little.
Well, when you are familiar with something - things pop out at you. You know when you buy a car, you see hundreds of other people who bought the exact same car. It’s not that there are more of them on the road. No one is in charge of a phone tree to notify everyone to buy the same car that you bought. Your awareness is just more hightened to that because it is familiar. And for me, such is the awareness of people with the same middle name as me.
Now, loving Batman as a kid, Wayne Manor (Batman’s house) always tickled me. But in real life there were no other people with my name that weren’t relatives. We are a fun crow and there are some neat historical facts - but nothing too psycho. So imagine my interest in finding out that so many serial killers share my middle name.
Now don’t get me wrong. It isn’t a happy coincedence. But one of those things that catches your attention. Like people who have the same name as famous people or products (Dr. Pepper, please come to OR3. Dr. Pepper OR3 Please).
I have always known about John Wayne Gacy but apparently there are a lot of “Waynes” out there going crazy! I came across this list and thought I would share it.

So. It seems clear that I because of my middle name that I must have the FBI watching me or something. Oh well, I guess it could be worse. My name could be Tony Bologna Mannor. For now I will accept being Anthony Wayne Allen Mannor, or as my neice likes to call me “Uncle Tony Macaroni”
Have a great weekend!

Tony, I am slowly learning all of these different parts of your personality profile by the pieces left all over the credit union blog-o-sphere.
From what I can gather, you are well-over six feet and a multi-business-owning entrepreneur with serial-killer tendencies who thinks he is the long-lost brother of Trey Reeme from Trabian and you can’t stand fluorescent paper.
Let me just say I think your blog is great and if I ever meet you, please don’t kill me. By the way, Trey is not over six feet tall, so you may want to call of the search.
Tim, you actually brought a tear to my eye.
You missed your calling as a profiler… unless you DO actually work for a secret and clandestine pseudo-government agency that has been monitoring my every move. This whole CU Blogger persona cover you have could just be clever ploy to lure me out into the open.
I’m on to you Agent McAlpine - if that is your REAL name…
You will not find me until my CU Manifesto is complete.
Sincerely yours,
The UniBlogger
I’ve seen something about that before on the Freakonomics blog. (If you haven’t read that book, BTW, you should definitely check it out.)
My totally uninformed opinion is that the prevalence has something to do with Wayne being a common middle name. The same way that if you get a group of Gen X women together, some absurd proportion of them will have the middle name Marie; same thing with Boomer women & Ann, IIRC. Unfortunately, there don’t seem to be any statistics available on the prevalence of middle names…I looked once a while ago.
My father-in-law’s middle name is Wayne, BTW, and my mine is Marie. So there we are.
Another “Marie” here. And I work for Tony.
It is strange how I just spotted the large Scooby Doo on the roof top of a house I drive by every day. This weekend I’m going as the characters from the TV show for Halloween. If I didn’t select this costume, would I have ever noticed the extremely strange roof top Scooby?
Yes, my mom is a “Marie” and so is my wife and niece. I think that has to do more with catholocism/chritianity more than anything else. Then once the name was established it became one of those things you do to pay tribute to a relative (mom, aunt, grandmother).
Thats my guess though.
I just bought my wife a Honda Pilot… Guess what I see on the road a milion times a day now? Yeah… you know.. ![]()
Oh Kristen… I am really thinking about posting the picture of bella that you sent me (dressed as Scooby Doo).
Very cool ![]()
Go for it. I am not only a graphic designer but also a accomplished dog collar costume maker! Everyone loved it at the party.
you mention the fact that all these individuals that share the middle name of wayne are serial killers and that is un-true to be a serial killer you have to murder more than one individual and I know for a fact that one of these men did not murder more than one person. I mean come on its bad enough that one murder crime was committed and now you try to accuse him of murding several people. These men have families that have done nothing wrong and you put them on lists for all to constintly be reminded of their acts. get over yourself and get a life a name is only a name and that is it.

The only times people use your middle name:
1. Ceremonies like graduation, baptisms and weddings.
2. By your mother when you’re in trouble.
3. By the news media when you’re in BIG trouble.
