Brand Killers

Why did your credit union reject me?

Ok, so why ask the question right? Credit unions don’t reject relationships with potential members. Or do they?
I was rejected… on Twitter.
I know, I was surprised too!
Lets get the psychology out of the way first.
Hello, my name is Tony Mannor of Andermahr & Company – The Credit Union Marketing Agency. I am a credit union [...]

Caution: Social Media Cuts Both Ways

Your credit union has nothing if it doesn’t have a brand. A brand works both ways

1. The message you present your members
2. The message your members present on your behalf

Both are equally important. You need to control both as much as you can. This is a good start, but as always – keep your ears and eyes open. What you are laughing about and sharing with your friends via YouTube could be happening to you and your credit union.

Suicide by Internet – Special Marketing Victims Unit

We have been watching newspaper shrinking up, consolidating and dying. Just the other day, reports came out that The San Francisco Chronicle is basically being sold for scrap.
“The Chron” has been a major paper in this area for 100 years or so. My dad used to have me run down to the 7-11 near my [...]

Are You Aggressive in Your Credit Union Marketing?

I like this ad.
Coincidentally I was working on a keynote that I am giving at a Marketing Association of Credit Unions roundtable here in Northern California about “Aggressive Youth Marketing” and I took a minute to goof off and I saw this ad.
When talking to CU Marketers, many of them are afraid to get “crazy” [...]

Brand Killer: Dear Credit Union – Why don’t you love me anymore?

I had to get some papers notarized. I don’t have to do this often, but enough that I have a regular place that I go to get this done.
But there is a new shopping center near my neighborhood. Now, I am not rolling in so much dough that I walk around in a top hat, [...]

Why is your credit union website so ugly?

You know who you are. You had your site designed 5, 6 or 7 years ago. It was designed for an 800 pixel wide screen, or even worse, 640×480.You may not even know that your “drop-down” menu systems (if you even have one) don’t work on the new browsers because your IT department won’t let [...]

How To: What to do when your CU gets Blogjacked

Look, I am no lawyer, and if you get blogjacked, a lawyer is likely to be your sidekick in your blog crime-fighting adventure. I am merely an assistant, a learned advisor, even a friendly guy at the gas station offering you directions.
Consider me Q to your James Bond. Maybe even the Obi Wan to your [...]

Another credit union blogjacking victim

At first I thought that Arizona Federal Credit Union had decided to “Go Blog” in the worst possible way. What the heck was I looking at? What credit union in their right mind would put google ads on their blog?
Ahhh, yeah. I looked at the URL.
While the blog was called the Arizona Federal Credit Union [...]

Your brand is a set of promises. Don’t be a liar.

I know we talk about branding and design and all those fun and fascinating things. But we haven’t spent a lot of time defining what branding is. Branding is just a set of promises that you make to your members or customers. That’s it. It is nothing more fancy or complicated than that.
Now, the complicated [...]
